Forgiveness is often hard; but without it
we shall never know peace, harmony and reconciliation
What makes a person truly great?
Forgiveness is the single most difficult, and yet most sublime attitude of the human heart. Our hearts are made for love. The love that can also forgive is the very summit of human achievement. It is already as near to human perfection as we can get.
Forgiveness is absolutely necessary for a happy and successful human life. It is a human necessity – quite independently of all religions. Without forgiveness, human life is a disaster.
Drain the poison from the system
The reason? Because an unforgiving heart is a poisoned heart, and its toxic venom will eventually destroy us. We need to drain this bitterness from our system – by letting go. Simply let it go.
It’s only by doing this that we can stop the other person’s words or actions having power over us. Why keep reliving that hurt and resentment over and over in our minds? This only gives them more power over you. It allows their actions to dictate your life.
Friend destroys friend?
We’ve all heard of cases where friends have fallen out, never reconciled, and spent the rest of their life “destroying” each other. A hurtful word that took less than 10 seconds to say is the justification for a million other nasty exchanges in the decades that follow.
How mad is that? Like a $1,000,000 lawsuit to recover a stolen $10!
Mad self-sabotage!
Above all we must also learn to forgive ourselves. This is every bit as important as forgiving others. We don’t need to carry an “enemy within” 24/7. That mischievous inner critic that constantly condemns us for some fault or mistake. We will never have peace until we can also forgive and let go of any “self-condemnation.”
For unless we love and forgive ourselves we will be unable to forgive others.
Excerpt from Gerry McCann’s book “Change your life start right now.”
Susan and Gerry, Here it is early Sunday morning in America’s great, lush Midwest and I’m glowing after viewing your video on Happiness. What you wrote, people don’t usually talk about, but when they stop and ask themselves, “Just why am I happy?” your words ring true. I think also what makes a person happy is the clear sense that he or she is making full use of their talents to serve a purpose they believe is important. Thank you for giving me a great start to my day.
Thank you David, it’s so kind of you to say so. Yes I agree we usually find happiness when we’re using our talents to help others. We can feel a sense of fulfilment when we make a difference.
